Hello there! I am from Colorado and am currently in Madrid. I need to start the Digital Nomad Visa process. I have read a lot of information but am the type of person that needs to speak with someone who can explain the process and answer specific questions. I was referred to a lawyer and we spoke briefly but I did not feel it was a good fit. Is there anyone who has recently went through the Nomad Visa process and applied from Spain, that wouldn’t mind sharing their process with me?
Thank you
I’m not from the States, but I’m currently in Barcelona and went through the Digital Nomad Visa process earlier this year. Totally get you—reading a bunch of stuff online is one thing, but sometimes you just need to hear it from someone who’s done it.
Here’s what my experience was like (hopefully it helps!):
- Your work has to be for a company outside Spain, and you need to earn at least €2,520/month (it might vary slightly). I had to provide contracts and payslips to prove this.
- You’ll need:
- A letter from your employer confirming you work remotely.
- A clean criminal record check (apostilled) from back home.
- Private health insurance that meets Spanish requirements (I went with Sanitas—super straightforward).
- Everything non-Spanish has to be officially translated. I found a local translator in Barcelona who was quick and not crazy expensive.
- Since you’re already in Spain, you’ll probably apply directly at the immigration office like I did. Book your appointment ASAP—slots can be hard to get sometimes…
- After submitting everything, I waited about a month to get an answer. Keep an eye on the online portal to track your status, and be ready to provide more documents if they ask.
If you have specific questions or just want to chat more about the process, feel free to follow up here! Happy to help
Good luck, you’ve got this!!
