Greetings from Florianópolis!
Hello everyone! Rick here. Originally from the US, I've been living as a nomad in Latin America since 2021. I've lived in Bogotá, Medellín, San Juan (Puerto Rico), Santiago and Buenos Aires, and I recently moved to Florianópolis, Brazil. I'll head back to Bogotá from time to time, and plan to add Mexico to the mix in 2026.
Living across borders? I’d love your input 💬
Hi everyone 👋,I’ve been living as a digital nomad for a few years, and one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is handling finances abroad 🌍 — hidden fees, poor exchange rates, frozen accounts, juggling multiple bank accounts… you name it .I’ve put together a short 5-minute anonymous survey to learn how other nomads deal with these challenges. I’ll share a summary of the results back with this ...
New around here!
I’m Zoey — a digital nomad for the past few years, moving between countries while working remotely. Along the way, I’ve seen both the joys and challenges of living across borders.I’m also a fintech builder, currently working on ideas to make life abroad easier for long-term nomads. Always happy to connect, swap stories, and make new friends in this community.
What is the best size for a eBook reader for travel?
I’m looking to buy an eBook reader that will be with me pretty much everywhere (planes, buses, cafés, hostels, coworking spaces, even sometimes outdoors at the beach), so I wanted to pick the brain of those of you who read often on the go.I mostly read novels, but I also want the option to occasionally check PDFs, guides, or articles I’ve saved. My main concern when looking for the best eBook read...
New Digital Nomad – Need Advice
Hi everyone! I’m just starting my journey as a digital nomad. I recently launched a small social media management agency and also have some video editing skills. Right now, I’m still learning how to find clients and grow. For those of you already working online:– Where did you find your first clients?– What do you think are the most useful skills for digital nomads starting out?– Do you recommend ...
Airbnb vs Booking vs Agoda vs Vrbo: where do you book your accommodation?
I see more and more nomads complaining about Airbnb fees getting crazy expensive, but I personally still haven't found a better alternative that I find overwhelmingly better. So, I was curious: where have you personally found the best deals or overall value for money? How do you usually check prices across these platforms?Have you ever had the listing not live up to the photos/description?And did y...
Who has a travel blog? Or a YouTube channel?
I imagine this is the most appropriate section of the forum to ask this:As the title says, if any of you have travel blogs, YouTube channels, or newsletters, I'd be interested in hearing about them =)Or even, if you know of any travel content creators who deserve to be discovered, but who I have little chance of finding on my own because they don't play the "influencer" game to please the algorith...
🧳 Thailand Long-Stay Visas — Anyone Exploring New Options for 2025?
Hey all 👋I've been digging into Thailand visa options lately, especially ones that go beyond tourist limits or visa runs. I found a surprisingly little-known route that allows up to 5 years of legal stay for about $300.I'm curious if anyone here has used this or is looking into similar long-term setups in SE Asia. I've mapped the steps out and happy to swap insights with others trying to stay rem...
What’s the toughest part of the nomadic lifestyle in your experience?
What do you think it’s the hardest thing about being a digital nomad in your opinion? Is it struggling to find remote work? Not being able to build deeper friendships?Dating and relationships constantly ending?Feeling lonely even in busy places?Missing family for long periods? Not feeling connected to your old life anymore?Anything else?I know everyone has their own view on this as it's based on the ...
🛏️ Would you ever split a hotel room with another solo traveler to save money?
Hey fellow nomads 👋Quick question I’ve been thinking about while traveling solo on a budget —Would you consider sharing a hotel room with another verified solo traveler if:– you could both save 50% on the booking– you had matching travel dates– and you could choose who you matched with (like in Couchsurfing or Bumble BFF)?Hotels usually charge the same for 1 or 2 guests… so there’s potential to s...
